Remembering the Holocaust

Coleraine Borough Council will mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2014 - with A Journey through the Holocaust exhibition.

It will draw on experiences of

Auschwitz Birkenau in Poland and from studies of the Nazi genocide.

The exhibition will also include educational resources about the holocaust from third party sources.

The materials will be on display from at Council’s Civic Headquarters in Cloonavin from January 27-30 from 9am until 5pm.

The theme for this event is journeys. The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust is asking people to consider the journeys, which those affected by genocide have been forced to make.

The Trust also asks what steps we can all make towards creating a safer and better future.

Julie Welsh, Council’s Community Development Manager for Coleraine Borough Council said: “On HMD 2014 we are encouraging people to come together to remember those murdered during the Holocaust, under Nazi persecution and in the subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

“We hope people will come along to our event and take the opportunity to think about how they can connect with others within our community.”

Olivia Marks-Woldman, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, added: “HMD is about learning from the past to build a better future; it is about promoting equality, respect and understanding. This year, we are asking people to take a step towards helping to create a safer, better future”.
