Rolling back the years on shorefront

Music lovers in Whitehead will be able to sample sights and sounds of summers past later this month.

Fashion, food and music will be on offer at the second annual Mods & Rockers Rally at the shorefront car park on Saturday 17 August.

The main event will run from 12 noon to 9.00pm with live music from the Mike Wilgar Band, who will serve up a mixture of rock and blues, while Who’s to Know will pay tribute to Mod icons The Who.

Keeping up the pace will be the Organ Grinders, billed as “80 percent punk, 20 per cent rock and 100 per cent attitude”.

Also appearing are The Ruby Cortinas, The Buck Edjits, The Sun Shadows and Jimmy Mac.

Revellers can chill out to DJs Tony Spence and Jane Skilling (Heart & Soul Belfast), Marty Cottrel (The Mad Catz) and Billy Anthony (Mods & Rockers).

Away from the main stage there will be an interesting array of stalls to explore including hot food and vintage clothing.

Further elements of the event will be a hog-roast barbecue, scooter/motorbike custom show, ride-out, vintage car show and more, according to the organisers.

There is free admission to the rally.

And in the true tradition of this type of celebration, a Mods & Rockers after-party will he held at Whitehead Community Centre, from 9.00pm (fully licensed bar), admission £5.

Special guests inlude the The Slick Hicks (Dublin), Mike Wilgar and DJ Marty Cottrel.

The inagural Mods & Rockers Rally was successfully introduced in 2012 as part of the annual festival programme in the town.
