Royal Irish Rifles 100th Anniversary

The Ancre Somme Association is holding a special free event from 7:30pm on Tuesday 23 June to mark the 100th anniversary of the 16th (Pioneers) Royal Irish Rifles leaving Lurgan.

The event will take place at Brownlow House in Lurgan, with guest speakers, Mark Scott, Christine Beggs, and David Martin. Mark’s rare photo collection featured in the BBC documentary, ‘The Man who shot the War’, whilst Christine of the Royal Ulster Rifles Museum will present a detailed history of this famed battalion. David, from Friends of Brownlow House, will also present a brief history of how Brownlow House was used as a base for the Pioneers - along with a walking tour of the castle’s cellars, where patrons can view graffiti etched by the soldiers.
