Royal tree planting

Woodlawn Primary pupils have been celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee in style.

Lots of activity was expected in the school grounds yesterday (Wednesday) as pupils, spades in hand, planted 401 native trees with help and advice provided by the Conservation Volunteers.

A total of 400 of the trees are from local sources, courtesy of the Woodland Trust, but the final one is a special oak, grown from an acorn at one of the Royal estates.

The school’s Eco Co-ordinator, Kathryn Edwards, told the TIMES that in addition to commemorating the Jubilee, the trees will provide a lasting legacy which will enhance the area in years to come.
