Running event at the City Park

THE City Park in Craigavon is getting set to be the latest venue to host Parkrun events, making it the second location to hold the runs outside of Belfast.

Saturday, August 11, will see the first of the free weekly 5K runs starting at 9.30am beside the Watersports Centre and take in one lap around the Lakes on a traffic free path.

It is not a race against other runners; each run will be timed and you will be able see how you improve, so whether you are a novice or a seasoned athlete Parkrun is for you!

Councillor Ronnie Harkness, Chair of Leisure Service Committee, said: “I am delighted that Parkrun have elected to use City Park for their weekly events. It is the perfect opportunity for the local community to come together and enjoy this beautiful park, getting physically active at the same time.

“Whether you are running for your own enjoyment or using the event as a part of a training plan, the 5K runs will help to get you motivated on a regular basis irrespective of your ability.”

The event is supported by the Northern Ireland Executive through the Department for Social Development, Craigavon Borough Council and Southern Health and Social Care Trust, and taking part is easy!

Register once before your first run at www.parkrun.org.uk/register.aspx then set your alarm for Saturday mornings and come along!

There will also be a chance to socialise with everyone after the run, why not grab a cup of tea or coffee at the Watersports Centre, adjacent to the finish line and swap stories about your run that day, chat to other runners and become part of this new running community.
