Ruth Foster (20), who has completed her second year of Religious Studies at the University of Edinburgh specialising in religion and conflict, has just returned from Bosnia-Herzegovina where she spent time learning about the 1995 genocide in Srebrenica.

More than 8,300 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed on July 11, 1995, when Bosnian Serb forces marched into the town of Srebrenica.

Ruth says: “This visit has motivated me to continue my studies and charity work with the ultimate desire of working for an NGO to help those who have been disadvantaged by divided societies. Although I am only a 20-year-old student from outside of Ballymena, I hope to bring these issues to the fore when I travel to China in two weeks time to represent the UK as a youth delegate to the G20. I will be the youngest delegate in attendance and the only one from Northern Ireland, but I hope to act as an example of unity and tolerance for the future leaders of the country.”
