Scouting for Girls are ready to rock Oxegen

SCOUTING For Girls are getting ready to rock next weekend when they will take to the main stage at Oxegen, Ireland's biggest and best rock weekend.

The 'This Ain't A Love Song' three-piece are promising a "rocking 45 minutes", for their set on the main stage at Europe's greatest festival on Friday July 9.

Speaking to the Star this week, bassist Greg Churchouse said the band are looking forward to their Oxegen return, and are promising an even greater show this time around.

"We're looking forward to it," Greg said: "We did it a couple of years ago, the year REM were there, so it is going to be really nice to get back. We did T in the Park the day before last time and came across on the ferry so we had horrid hangovers but this time we are doing Oxegen first, so we'll get to enjoy it more."

You'd think playing in front of around 80,000 people at the Punchestown Racecourse, Naas, would make the guys nervous, but that's not the case, said Greg.

"We did get nervous on our first proper festival at the Isle of Wight. There were 55,000 people and backstage we were like, 'We're going to rock it,' and then we stepped out and were like, 'Oh, that's a lot of people'. Now the adrenalin drives us, we still get a proper adrenalin kick, all you can see are thousands of little heads, it's amazing."

The guys followed up their Number 1 debut album earlier this year with 'Everybody Wants To Be On TV', which went straight to the top spot, and they enjoyed a week in Ireland in April as part of their tour.

"The tour went really well," Greg explained. "We spent a week in Ireland and it was amazing because the album had only been out a week and people were singing along to not only the old songs but all the news ones; it was so cool."

And fans travelling to Oxegen next weekend can looking forward to hearing a good mix of the old and new, with hits such as 'She's So Lovely', 'Elvis Ain't Dead' and 'Heartbeat' included in the set.

"With the festival we'll opt for the hits and then mix in some of the new stuff. When you play a festival you've got loads of people who have never seen you before so it's a good opportunity to win people over.

"So many times we play gigs and you get people saying, 'I'm here with my girlfriend because she really loves you but actually you're really good,' so there's always to chance to pick up new fans."

The band will release their second single from the latest album, 'Famous' on July 18, which Greg says is "wicked", with remix versions currently going down well with club-goers.

Looking ahead to Oxegen, Greg said: "It's going to be a rocking 45 minutes with all the hits so it should be a really good party atmosphere and hopefully we'll get the sunshine.

"It's such a beautiful site there and if it does rain I can always hide in the racecourse bit!"
