The teenager pulled off a remarkably brave performance, choosing to sing the massive hit ‘I will always love you’, which is widely regarded as a song best suited to female vocals.

After the four judges were spliton who should be the second act to go through to the final, Jordan won by virtue of the fact he won more of the popular vote.

Admitting to a touch of nerves early last week, he said: “Before I arrived on Wednesday to do my rehearsal I was kinda nervous and I was not feeling the best. I think I was in a bit of a depression because I was worrying in case I did not produce what everyone was hoping I would.

“I think it was because it had been a long time since I had been on stage. But, as soon as I had performed in front of everyone at the show, people like the vocal coach and that, it kinda fell into place again and the nerves went away.

“So, whenever I arrived on Wednesday and went in for a vocal coaching session I knew I was ok and the coach was great. She said my voice was very healthy and that I sounded great,” Jordan laughed.

“That gave me a lot of confidence and I immediately noticed my mood feel a lot better than it was. I was chatting to one of the guys in Simon Cowell’s company and he said to forget about all the negative thoughts and feelings and to just concentrate totally on the positive,” said 19-year-old Jordan.

“I’m doing a lot of resting as part of my preparation. Resting my voice and I have been doing a lot of vocal coaching, warming up my voice every morning but just resting and not doing much else. I’m focused on saving myself for Saturday night,” he said.

“It’s a great experience and I am grateful to have had the experience.”
