SOAK is latest Playhouse patron

The Playhouse has announced its newest - and youngest ever - patron, Bridie Monds-Watson aka SOAK!

The news was announced after the singer Songwriter’s special performance at The Playhouse for Culture Night.

She now joins fellow Playhouse Patrons Griff Rhys Jones, Gabriel Byrne, Bronagh Gallagher, Roma Downey, Sorcha Cusack and Eva Birthistle and writers Jennifer Johnston and Frank McGuinness in the star-studded list of names pledging their support for the theatre.

In 2012, aged just 16 SOAK played her first ever support gig for John Deery and The Heads’, launching her first EP ‘Trains’ at the first Playhouse Jammhouse event.

She later that year returned to The Playhouse to release her 2nd EP Sea Creatures. Since she has continued to grow her reach, making big waves in the local and national music scene.

Since releasing her debut single ‘Sea Creatures’ last year, she has gigged extensively, touring with Tegan And Sara and Chvrches.

She released her debut studio album ‘Before We Forgot How to Dream’ in 2015 and in 2014 was revealed as one of acts on the BBC Sound of 2015 long list. SOAK’s music has been described as ‘a vivid portrait of teenage deep-thinking’ by The Guardian.

“It’s so important for us to have such a young fresh talent added our patrons wall, a musician who is a valued contributor to the city’s music offering and of whom we are so immensely proud” Pauline Ross at The Playhouse said.

“From her first ever couple of public appearances and EP launces at The Playhouse, to the dizzying heights she has currently reached, she has grown and developed into an ambassador for the young people of this city, for their talent and for their creativity, and we wanted to recognise that.”
