Something for everyone at the Island Arts Centre

UNWRAP a little bit of happiness from the Island’s new 2012 season where every event is dedicated to your time well spent.

Great drama waiting in the wings includes the high-octane production of Shakespeare’s most bloody and fear-filled tragedy Macbeth, Martin Lynch’s Brothers in Arms: an unflinching exploration of the republican movement and the challenges it currently faces, the provocative drama Adolf and the poignant An Instinct for Kindness, the true story of Chris Larner’s journey to Switzerland’s Dignitas clinic last year with his chronically ill ex-wife and his return home with an empty wheelchair.

For something a little bit more light hearted there are laughs abound in comedy dramas The Diaries of Adam and Eve, Sense and Sensibility and Cranford. Other great dramas include Coole Lady and Churchill.

Comedy fans will be amused by the genius of Kevin McAleer and Funny Tricks, a new show starring Ian Keable, a skilled magician with a rare gift for comedy.

Musicians just love playing at the Island because they can get up close and personal with the audience. Island’s new music season is infused with classical, Jazz and Blues and Celtic influences.

Classical hitters are the Agnew McAllister Duo, Spanish guitar maestro Eduardo Niebla in Concert and the Ulster Orchestra in full baroque brilliance.

Jazz and Blues highlights include talents as diverse as The Mary Ryan Blues Trio, Lisburn local Ronnie Greer, Australia’s First Lady of Jazz Janet Seidel with her band and the Jeremy Lyons Ensemble – a 10-piece band featuring the cream of NI jazz talent.
