Spend a literary evening at the Island

NEXT week the Island Arts Centre will be welcoming two of Northern Ireland's most popular writers for an evening of literary entertainment.

The John Hewitt Society, which honours the life and work of the celebrated Belfast poet with annual summer schools in Armagh and spring festivals in the Glens of Antrim, is pleased to present, in collaboration with the Island Arts Centre, a reading featuring two of Northern Ireland's best-known contemporary writers - Glenn Patterson and Sinead Morrisey.

Glenn Patterson was born in Belfast and is the author of six acclaimed novels, the most recent of which is 'The Third Party', which was published in 2007.

His other publications include 'Once Upon a Hill: Love in Troubled Times', which was published in 2008. This is a record of the lives of his Lisburn-born grandparents.

A highly regarded boradcaster, Glenn has presented numerous television documentaries and an arts review series for RTE.

Joining Glenn in Lisburn's Island Arts Centre will be award-winning poet Sinead Morrissey.

Born in Co Armagh, Sinead's latest collection, entitled 'Through the Square Window', was shortllisted for this year's TS Eliot award and won the 2010 Irish Times Poetry Now prize, one of Ireland's most prestigious literary awards.

Glenn and Sinead will be taking to the stage of the Island Arts Centre on Thursday September 23 at 8pm.

Tickets, priced 7, are on sale now from the Island Arts Centre Box Office on 9250 9254. The ticket price includes a glass of wine.
