St Joseph’s sing out for charity

Thursday, December 19, 2013 is a date which St Joseph’s PS Lisburn have had in their diary since this time last year.

On this night last year the P5-P7 children treated their parents and the wider school community to a most wonderful celebration of Christmas through music, song and dance in the magnificent surroundings of Lisburn Island Centre.

During the evening, ten charities benefited from £4,500 which has been raised by the children during the previous Lent and Advent.

Remarkably, the concert and charity giving this year, will follow the same pattern as, during April and December the children have been continuously fund raising for their nominated charities.

Only this week the P6 and P7 choir members brought Christmas cheer to the town centre, as they entertained Christmas shoppers with their Christmas melody of carols and true to form, the people of Lisburn responded most generously.

Today (Friday) they have a ‘wear something Christmassy’ day, as school cook Jacqueline prepares and serves Christmas dinner to all 390 pupils. The children will thank God for the gift of food, by making a donation to help the people of the Philippines.

The gala Carol Concert on December 19 has all the profit going to make up the charity total for this year, which will hopefully reach around £5,000

The concert is completely led by the talented children who sing, dance and act their way through a packed programme which will send everyone home full of Christmas spirit.

Charities which will benefit from the generosity of parents and the wider Lisburn community include Trocaire, St Vincent de Paul, The Simon Community, The Sacred Heart of Mary missions, Tuesday’s Child, The Mayor’s Charity (Diabetic Unit at Lagan Valley Hospital), Road of Hope and NI Hospice.

Tickets for the concert 
are almost sold out but any seats left can be booked through The Island Centre box office.
