Stories of the workhouses

Ballymena Central Library at Pat's Brae is hosting an informative talk on the stories of the Workhouses of Ballymena and the wider County Antrim on Tuesday, March 10, from 6.30-7.30pm.

The event will be delivered by Simon Gallaher, who is currently undertaking a PhD at Cambridge University into childhood, poverty and poor relief in Nineteenth and Twentieth century Ireland.

Simon will explore the reasons why families and children were admitted to the workhouses of County Antrim during this period.
