Stranocum Community Week has it all

NEXT week sees the start of the ever popular Strancum Community Week.

The annual event gets up and running on Monday, August 9 and continues until Friday, August 13.

As usual the organisers have a feast of activities including a duck race, fancy dress competition, dog show, community walk and family fun night.

Here is a list of events at glance:

Monday, August 9

Duck race at Stranocum Bridge. Prizes: 1st 100 of home heating oil, 2nd 50 voucher for family pony trekking, sponsored by Sheans, 3rd 25 Asda voucher. The chosen charity this year is Bush Community Rescue Service. Tickets 1 each.

Fancy dress competition at 7.30pm. There will be two categories - 6-years-old and under and 7-years-old and over.

Dog Show at 8pm. This is open to all children under 16 years. Two categories are - Best Puppy-dogs under 1-year-old and Best Adult-dogs over 1-year-old. Good luck to everyone.

Wednesday, August 11

Community Walk at 7pm. Members will assemble and finish at the Portacabin, Main Street. Admission is free. This is a three mile walk around the Livery Hills. Remember children must be accompanied by an adult. Please wear suitable footwear. Refreshments will be served on return.

Friday, August 13

Family fun night at Stranocum Hall from 7pm until 9pm. The event includes trampolines, bouncy castle, basket weaving, chip pan display by NIFRS, face painting, vintage vehicles display, sheep shearing demonstration, the Gathering Drum. Plus the chance to win a luxury food hamper and much, much more.

Under 16’s disco 9pm until 10.30pm in the marquee. Children must be accompanied by an adult. So please come along and dance to all the tunes.
