Summer fun

WITH summer holidays finally here, Craigavon Leisure Centre has been a hive of activity with children from across the Borough taking part in Council’s ‘What to do for Boys and Girls’ summer programme.

Over 130 young ones took part in a diverse range of exciting activities on offer including soccer, trampolining, swimming and gymnastics. There was also a Hip Hop Dance Academy organised through Sport NI’s Lottery Funded Active Communities programme which attracted over 40 young dancers

The Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Carla Lockhart took some time out of her busy schedule to meet with some of the young people taking part and saw first-hand a hip hop dance routine prepared by the young people. She commented:

“These fantastic activities are a great way to keep your young ones entertained over the holidays. There is a wide range of summer activities on offer across the Borough throughout July and August – some delivered by the Council and others organised by local sports clubs. Anyone interested in getting their young ones involved should contact the Council’s Sports Development Unit on 028 3831 1692.”

Courses on offer over the next six weeks of the holidays include an Olympic Sports Week from 23rd – 27th July and an Olympic Sports Family Day on Saturday 21st July. In addition, the ever popular Nutty Krust IFA Soccer fun week kicked off at Craigavon, Waves and Cascades leisure centres last week with children spending the time being coached in dribbling, ball skills, passing skills and mini matches. The IFA’s Grassroots Development officer will also be running a further two soccer fun weeks at Kernan Park from 23rd July – 27th July and also in Lurgan Park from 6th August until the 10th August.
