Tandragee offers plenty

TANDRAGEE is an historic and spectacular place to play your golf, week in, week out. Last year (2012) you could play at Tandragee 363 days out of the 366 as they only closed three days in the entire year due to adverse weather conditions. You’ll not find another course within a 25-mile radius of Tandragee that offers such year round access to the golf course. With extra holes that do not form part of the summer setup, this provides great options for the winter setup. In each of the last two years the members at Tandragee enjoyed winter golf on their full greens, keeping the game as real as possible in some trying conditions.

The Course

The meticulously manicured parkland course offers a true test of your golfing ability. While not the longest course in County Armagh at 5,736 mtrs it is without doubt the trickiest. The sloping, undulating fairways and raised greens with run-off areas ensure that if you can play well at Tandragee, you can play well anywhere.

The History

It was back in 1911 that the ninth Duke of Manchester brought over Mr. John Stone, an eminent Scottish professional from Sandy Lodge Golf Club in London, to lay out a private course on his estate in Tandragee. The Duchess of Manchester, who was born in Cincinatti, Ohio, took a keen interest in the design of the course and some of the original bunkers were laid out, under her direction, in the shape of the great lakes and these are evident even today. The then nine-hole course skirted the lovely Derryallen Woods where, in spring, great banks of rhododendrons provided a blaze of colour.

Those who visit the course today can still see the beauty of those shrubs as seen by players who played the course almost 100 years ago. Players marvel in the history of this great club as evidence of the Duke’s estate, the outbuildings and the original course form part of a great 18 holes with some wonderful views of the rolling countryside for miles around.
