Thanksgiving Assembly success for Model pupils

Mr George McVeigh former principal was the guest of honour on the day as well as the special guests of the Year 1 parents and grandparents who were invited to join with the school to celebrate their children’s first performance.

Mrs Jamison the principal extended a warm welcome to everyone and the assembly began with a Thanksgiving Poem read by Saffron Montgomery in Year 7.

Next the whole school joined together to sing the song ‘Someone’s brought a loaf of bread’. One child from every class assisted within this song as each brought a different harvest gift to the table.

This was then followed by the Year 1 song ‘Harvest Time’ and the Year 2 song ‘Thank You for the Harvest’. Next in the programme a Harvest Poem was read by the following Year 7 pupils, Lauren Relf, Daniel White, Zara Lyon, Marc McQuilkin and Alexandra Walker. Years 3 & 4 then joined together to sing the song ‘Thank-you, Thank-you, Lord Above’.

Mr McVeigh then addressed the children showing them an array of different seeds, fruit and plants that he had brought with him that day and talked about God’s creation and provision for us. The children enjoyed Mr McVeigh’s address and responded well to his questions.

Juana-Mai Millar as the eldest pupil within the school and Kelsay-Marie Gallagher as the youngest pupil presented Mr McVeigh with a thank you gift from the school.

The concluding piece was the Year 5, 6 and 7 classes singing ‘We Thank You God’.

Mrs Jamison thanked everyone involved, Mr McVeigh the guest speaker, all those involved in putting together today’s programme, Mrs Carson and Miss Stinson for accompanying the children on the piano and to those involved in the decoration of the hall. Many thanks were also extended to the parents for their kindness and generosity in bringing in many items of food that would be later distributed to senior citizens within the local area. The Ballymoney Tesco store was also thanked for their generosity in providing re-useable bags for the distribution of the school’s food parcels.

Later that day the senior pupils with their teachers packed the food parcels and then distributed them to residents in Eastermede, Margaret Square and Avenue, Charlotte Street and Townhead Street areas of the town.
