‘The Dolly Parton Story’ comes to theRiverside Theatre

The Dolly Parton Story is a two hour journey through the sensational career of one of country music’s most successful ladies.

Dolly Parton’s career has spanned over 50 years and her most celebrated material features in this show, from her early country classics such as ‘Coat of Many Colours’ and ‘Joshua’, through to the later smash hits such as ‘Jolene’, ‘Islands in the Stream’, ‘I Will Always Love You’ and ‘9 to 5’.

Andrea Pattison from Sunderland has been a professional singer for many years and in that time, many people have commented on her similarity in sound and style to Dolly Parton.

As a life long fan of Dolly’s, Andrea always took this as a huge compliment, then she decided to use that aspect of her talent to reach a wider audience.

Now in it’s fifth year this great show has built up a huge following around the UK and is delighted to now bring the show to Ireland. With an all live four piece band providing the sound and an array of amazing, rhinestone encrusted replica costumes, this is a real treat for any Dolly Parton fan.

As well as celebrating the life and music of Dolly Parton, Andrea will be incorporating her own experiences and music into the show. Andrea’s first album of original songs ‘Stormy’s Daughter’ was recently released and one of the songs will feature in the stage show. Dolly’s influence on Andrea’s writing and singing is obvious throughout the album, but especially evident on the Bluegrass track ‘Nobody’s Baby’ – a heartfelt recollection of her less than idyllic early life in Sunderland.

NI’s best-known political commentator and TV Presenter Mark Carruthers will be in conversation with Derry journalist and author Susan McKay on the stage at the Theatre on Wednesday, February 12 in ‘Alternative Ulsters’.

In Alternative Ulsters, the broadcaster interviews a wide range of high profile writers, actors, journalists and politicians, each of them with an enduring Ulster connection. Susan McKay is a writer from Derry, now living in the Irish Republic. Her journalism has been widely anthologised, including in the Field Day Anthology of Irish Writing. Tickets £12.

The Henry Girls return for a one-off concert on Saturday February 15. These three sisters from Donegal, are establishing a reputation as one of the finest musical groups in Ireland.

The three are multi-instrumentalists who perform an eclectic mix of traditional Irish music, folk and blues, with spine-tingling three-part vocal harmonies, to produce a musical fusion of the Donegal coastline and the Appalachian Mountains that combines something of our Irish heritage with a more contemporary backdrop. Tickets cost £12.00 and concessions £10.00.

Portstewart’s own, professional theatre company - Big Telly will bring their latest touring production ‘One Sandwich Short of a Genius’ to the stage on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 February. The play tells the story of a ridiculously normal family in absolute denial about the things they don’t mention. Tickets: £14.00, concessions £11.00.
