The Gables host popular fiddle act

LOCAL musician Declan McGrath is playing host to popular musicians Skip Gorman and Ron Kane for a ‘shin-dig’ in The Gables.

Declan first encountered Skip at the Calvin Vollrath fiddle camp in Alberta Canada in 2010. Friendships were maintained through the internet and now Skip and fellow musician Fiddler Ron Kane from Montana are now visiting the Emerald Isle to appear at a number of festivals. This was too good an opportunity to miss and some smooth talking from Declan persuaded the gents to become acquainted with the music scene in Tyrone.

Skip Gorman was born in Rhode Island in 1949. He was introduced to traditional music early in his life at the age of eight, when he received his first guitar and a Jimmie Rodgers record.

Through his music, Skip Gorman brings back to life the workaday world of the cowboys of the American West. His music is not the music of the Hollywood cowboy, but rather the simple, yet beautifully poignant music that was performed around campfires by cowboys and westward settlers in the 19th century.

Skip tours both solo and with various musical combinations but on this journey he has teamed up with long time friend Ron Kane. Ron is an accomplished Fiddle player and story teller.

The guys would love to invite local musicians of all genres to join them in the evening and for those of us who are not talented in this field, to sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

The event on Tuesday 8 May at The Gables, Carland Road, Dungannon kicks off at 8pm and admission is free.
