The story of Othello comes to The Old Courthouse

BRUISER Theatre Company explodes onto the stage at The Old Courthouse on Friday, April 1 at 7.30pm with an electrifying contemporary take on Shakespeare’s most brutal and gripping thriller-tragedy of love, paranoia, jealousy and murder.

This is the story of General Othello, his love for the beautiful Desdemona and their tragic downfall at the hands of the scheming and manipulative Iago.

As we embark on the start of a new decade, the themes of racial tension and distrust of the different chime all too loudly in today’s society – the perfect time for ‘Othello’ to take to the stage.

Bruiser is delighted to be presenting the World Premiere of this brand new adaptation by Patrick J. O’Reilly (Stewart Parker Award Winner).

Patrick said: “It has been a delight and a challenge being seduced by the mastery of Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’; a play rich in manipulation, revenge, secrecy, lies and murder. Watching the tragic plot unfold before you is a feast for the senses.”

This Bruiser adaptation is bare-knuckle Shakespeare for 2011. None of Shakespeare’s script has been modernised, yet those who might be fearful of the Bard will find this gritty, breathless, two-hour drama exhilarating and relevant – exactly what you would expect from a Bruiser production!

Tickets are still available for the show on Friday, April 1 at 7.30pm at £10/£8 concession from the box office on 028 9446 3113 or online at www.antrim.gov.uk/oldcourthouse
