The Drumsurn girl owned up to a few nerves during her last outing on the popular BBC show, but said that she, as always, really enjoyed taking part.

Speaking to the Sentinel on Monday evening, the Limavady Grammar student said: “Yeah, I’m buzzing. This round it was very, very scary. It was worse because I had to stand at the side of the stage and watch the rest of the team perform. The nerves did get the better of me. I still really enjoyed it though.”

The last time the Sentinel spoke to the young singing sensation, she said she wasn’t letting her status as bookmaker’s favourite get to her head. Asked whether she wasn’t starting to at least think about the prospect of winning the whole contest, Rachael answered: “Yeah, obviously you do picture it or think about what it would be like to win but I’m just going to be trying to get through the first live show.”

The nerve-shredding live rounds aren’t going to force a change in Rachael’s approach, she said: “I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing and hopefully not let the nerves get to me.” Rachael continued: “Even though those last rounds were pre-recorded they were still live. They are live for the contestants and you only get one chance to get up there and sing.”

The local girl is living in London at the moment for as long as her involvement in The Voice continues and staying with a fellow contestant. “It is a competition but everyone respects each other”, she explained. “I’m living with Sophie-May - me and her get on very well.”

Rachael also had a few kind words for fellow Northern-Ireland contestant Jai, saying: “Even though she is out now I don’t think that’s the last you’re going to be hearing of Jai.”
