The Voice Squad come to Market Place

Before The Three Tenors, The High Kings or The Priests, there was always ‘The Voice Squad’, Ireland’s leading traditional a capella group!

A group of traditional
a capella close harmony singers, the trio of Phil
Callery, Gerry Cullen
and Fran McPhail, have
performed all over Ireland and in most of the major
cities of Europe. They
have also toured extensively in North America and
Canada.

As it has been many years since the celebrated trio have sung in Armagh, there should be a warm welcome when they take the stage at the Market Place
Theatre, Armagh, on Wednesday 24 July for a very special evening of
music making.

While the Voice Squad may be of particular appeal to traditional music fans, this very special concert should appeal to anyone interested in top quality singing!

The distinctive Voice Squad sound comes from the mix of the two tenor voices of Fran and Phil, with the underlying bass of Gerry, who also creates the harmony structure for each song. There is a careful respect
between the three voices and a uniformed focus
on the songs and the intention always is to sing as one voice.

They have sung as guest vocalists with Dolores Keane, Elvis Costello a
nd Sinead O’Connor and they have also collaborated with Van Morrison,
Phil Coulter, Brian Kennedy and Mary Black.

The Voice Squad performed at the opening of the 2003 Special Olympics in Dublin and recorded the theme song, “May We Never Have to Say Goodbye”, with Rita Connolly and Shaun Davey.
