Come to the cabaret

Step through the doors of the Mac Theatre in Belfast at the minute and you will be immediately transported to 1930s Berlin and the infamous Kit Kat Club, where life is much more beautiful inside than out.

Bruiser Theatre has sealed its place as one of the leading theatre companies in Northern Ireland with their latest offering ‘Cabaret’, which is, without doubt, one of the best pieces of musical theatre to ever grace the Belfast stage.

Even before the first chord is struck, you are already captivated by the setting as you are no longer in the Mac, but rather you have become the audience for the raucous and altogether naughty Kit Kat girls and their disturbing yet mesmerising MC.

The blend of the provocative Kit Kat Club scenes with the moving, thought provoking lives of the inhabitants of Fräulein Schneider’s boarding house and the ever tightening grip of the Nazi Party is a difficult juxtaposition but Bruiser director Lisa May captures the balance perfectly,

There is not one moment that lets the show down, not one performance that was anything less than flawless and not one line, note or movement that wasn’t delivered to perfection.

And special mention must, of course, go to Lisburn’s own Kit Kat ‘girl’ Rea Campbell-Hill, who was faultless in his portrayal of Fritzie.

This is truly a show not to be missed, a masterpiece of musical theatre that will be talked about long after the curtain goes down.

Cabaret runs until October 4 and tickets are on sale from the Box Office on 9023 5053.
