Entertaining addition to Avengers movie series

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a fantastically entertaining addition to Marvel Studio’s Avengers series.

Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is still adapting to life after being thawed out in the present day. Doing undercover assignments for SHIELD, he is often teamed with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and deals extensively with SHIELD director Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson). However, when SHIELD is infiltrated by spies, Captain America has to decide who he can trust and how to prevent SHIELD’s destruction.

This film has the action and comedy Marvel films are celebrated for, though the comedy is downplayed this time round. I’ve remarked before how every film from Marvel Studios feels like smaller parts of a bigger picture. A benefit that television series generally have over film is the ability to have an ongoing running narrative - allowing for better development. Marvel Studios have been able to do this in a way not seen since the days of movie serials. Going forward, every film has repercussions.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the very best Marvel film since The Avengers. A high mark in a great series, it satiates the appetite as the march towards next years Avengers: Age of Ultron continues.
