Halloween movies that fly below the radar

Last year, in the run up to Halloween, I recommended five great horror sequels and remakes, which I felt were in need of more attention. Continuing the tradition, here are three more for your Halloween viewing pleasure.

‘Halloween II’ (1981) takes place on the same night as the first film.

After her run in with Michael Myers, Laurie Strode (Jaime Lee Curtis) is rushed to hospital.

Myers, who is still in Haddonfield, learns of her location and goes after her, with Donald Pleasance’s Dr Loomis on Myers’ trail. ‘Halloween II’ is one of the highlights in the ‘Halloween’ series.

Tom Savini’s ‘Night of the Living Dead’ (1990) is a remake of George Romero’s 1968 zombie classic.

The remake, written by Romero himself, changes a lot of the story - providing enough differences for the remake to have its own identity. Criminally underrated, its one of my favourite zombie films.

‘Wes Craven’s New Nightmare’ (1994) has a truly original premise. In it, the actors of the ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ film series are stalked by Freddy Krueger, who has exited the movies and entered the real world.

This, the seventh film in the ‘Elm Street’ franchise, is still one of the very best.
