Miss Saigon brought to life at The Mac

Belfast School of Performing Arts return to the stage of the Mac theatre, Belfast to perform the Northern Ireland Premier of Miss Saigon School Edition from August 27-30.

Directed by Artistic Director and renowned singer James Huish, the students of the Belfast School of Performing Arts will perform this legendary musical from the creators of Les Miserables. The cast is made up of students aged 12-19 years old who are travelling from across the province to participate, including some students travelling up from the Republic of Ireland.

James Huish, Artistic Director commented: “We had a hard task deciding which show to perform after the success of our last show Les Miserables, what show could we do that would be bigger and better than Les Miserables? We think we have found it - it’s a hard topic to portray and to understand but our young cast have just amazed us, this is going to be something very special.”

The show will be musically directed by Wilson Shields and choreographed by Kirsten Magee, with rehearsals happening in Belfast for the past two weeks in order to get the cast ready to take this incredible show to the MAC stage in what will be a visual and emotional masterpiece.

The students also benefitted from a Master Class with Musical Theatre legend Simon Bowman, who played Chris in the original ‘Miss Saigon’ production.

This epic musical love story tells the tragic tale of young bar girl Kim, orphaned by war, who falls in love with an American GI Chris - but their lives are torn apart by the fall of Saigon.

Since Miss Saigon’s sensational record-breaking run at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane 25 years ago it has played in 300 cities in 15 different languages, winning awards around the world and Sir Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed new production has made its highly anticipated return to the West End.
