Mumford and Sons don’t fix what isn’t broken

AFTER their successful first album ‘Sigh No More’ there was pressure on Mumford and Sons to make an album that would please their fans, and after the release of ‘Babel’ it is safe to say that they didn’t disappoint.

‘Babel’ has won the band a Grammy award for ‘Album of the year’ and in the 2013 Brit Awards the band won ‘Best British Group’. Mumford and sons have stuck with their original sound in ‘Babel’ with their folk pop, banjo playing, barn-dance style proving to be a continued success from ‘Sigh No More’.

The memorable songs on ‘Babel’ are the hit single ‘I Will Wait’, ‘Whispers in the dark’, ’Babel’ and ‘Lover of the light’.

The songs from ‘Babel’ will be extremely popular at their concerts as some of the songs such as ‘I Will Wait’ sound like anthems; you can’t help but sing the catchy chorus and attempt line-dancing to the songs.

Like their previous album, other than the catchy banjo plucking, the thing that really stands out for me in ‘Babel’ is Marcus Mumford’s voice as he can sing the gentle, low key songs just as well as the more booming, vibrant songs.

Mumford and Sons are the kings of folk-pop, they are huge worldwide and have a massive fan base.

Some critics have slammed the album as being too safe, however I think if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, and Mumford and Sons have successfully continued to produce brilliant, original music.
