Music student seeks fame

LOCAL music student Chris Heron, 20, will be taking to the stage this August in Queen’s Music Society Theatre Group’s Fame – The Musical as he takes on the leading male role of Nick Piazza.

Chris is currently studying Music at the Lisburn campus of the South Eastern Regional College. Always having an interest in music, he got his first taste of the theatre after joining Premier Musical Company with whom he tours the country in a Glee tribute band.

He said: “Having played Finn in the Gleekz band I got my first taste of Musical Theatre. I saw the auditions for Fame advertised and after having seen the recent movie, I knew I wanted to be a part of what I am certain will be a fantastic show.”

He will be performing with a strong cast of around 40, each cast as an actor, singer or dancer who are chasing their dreams of fame and fortune.

QMS Theatre Group will be presenting Fame - The Musical at the Waterfront Studio from Wednesday, August 17 – Saturday, August 20.

This latest production follows on from the success of their Spring Musical - Evita at the same venue only a few months ago.

“Given the current misrepresentation of both young people and students in Northern Ireland, we felt it was important that our next show was something that explored issues that confront many young people today,” said Producer and Co-Founder Owen McColgan.

Based on the hit motion picture and the long-running television series of the 1980’s, Fame - The Musical follows a group of students in their relationships at a New York High School for the Performing Arts.

A bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story filled with candour, humour and insight, Fame is filled to the brim with memorable numbers including the hit title song ‘Fame’, which will have you up and dancing in the aisles in no time.

Chris commented: “Rehearsals will be tiresome and tough but there’s some real talent in the cast and it’s going to be a great show with something for everyone.”

Fame – The Musical will be staged at the Waterfront Studio from August 17 – August 20. Tickets are priced at £14.50 with concessions available and can be purchased from the Waterfront Box Office on 9033 4455 or booked online at www.waterfront.co.uk.
