Partridge’s big screen debut worth the wait

In that time, Partridge’s career rise and fall have been documented over a variety of series and he has amassed a cult following. Announced back in 2004, ‘Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa’ - the first film appearance for Steve Coogan’s most famous character - was worth the wait.

Alan is the host of ‘Mid-Morning Matters’ show on Radio Norwich. When Radio Norwich is taken over by new management, they get rid of Pat Farrell (Colm Meaney), an older DJ with a niche audience. During an office party, Pat takes the presenters and owner hostage, leading to a siege. Due to his friendship with Pat, Alan is chosen by the police to be the negotiator. Rather than take this role seriously, Alan revels in the notoriety and new found publicity.

The film is full of references to prior Partridge series which fans will spot. Returning alongside Partridge are his sidekick Simon from ‘Mid-Morning Matters’ and his PA Lynn and friend Michael from ‘I’m Alan Partridge’. Both the cast and the writing are on top form.

‘Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa’ made me laugh out loud – it’s hilarious and the best comedy film I’ve seen this year.
