Sleeping Bully A Cultural Fairytale

‘Sleeping Bully: A Cultural Fairytale’, a new play about inclusion, understanding and the celebration of cultural diversity will run for one night only at the Waterside Theatre tonight, Wednesday, March 28, at 7.30pm. This is a free Event.

The cast is made up of 20 young people, aged between 11 and 16 years of age, from all over the city and from a wide variety of backgrounds including Iranain, Panaman, Lithuanian and Polish. The group have been working together since October with local Drama facilitator and performer, Gemma Walker and Ewelina O’Donnell to create this piece.

They have helped to write the script and have included issues that are important to them. The piece combines dance and physical theatre with poetry and comedy to explore important elements of Polish traditions and folklore.

In the play there is Aine who has been bullying the new Polish girl at her school. Things aren’t great for Aine at home and when she goes to sleep one night she enters a dream world of familiar and not so familiar faces who take her on a journey towards understanding.

This play will appeal to all ages and if for one night only, but is informative and entertaining…

The play is funded by Children in Need with Sponsorship from Waterside Credit Union and is part of the Waterside Theatre’s Education Programme funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
