Time for ‘Top Hat’ and tails at the Island Hall

This month, the Island Arts Centre will echo with the sound of tap shoes tapping as the Northern Ireland premiere of the Irving Berlin classic – Top Hat – comes to Lisburn.

Following sell-out shows at the Grand Opera House by the award-winning St Agnes’ Choral Society, this production will transport audiences to a bygone era with some of the most memorable songs and dance routines in entertainment history.

Featuring classic tunes including ‘Cheek to Cheek’, ‘Let’s Face the Music & Dance’ and the titular ‘Top Hat, White Tie and Tails’, the show has enthralled generations of theatre goers and movie lovers with its sumptuous combination of music, choreography and costume design.

Laura Kerr, Director of Top Hat, said; “We are so excited to be coming to the Island Hall for this six-show run of Top Hat.

“As a Lisburn native, I am delighted to be bringing this production home and I know the local audience will absolutely fall in love with the whole experience.

“The mistaken identity storyline is hilarious, the songs are fantastic and the whole company is working tirelessly to give 150 percent on dance numbers that honestly belong on a West End stage.”

Jonathan Reid, who hails from Portadown and is dancing in the show, said rehearsals have been going well.

He added: “The sight of all the dancers in the gorgeous costumes all perfectly in sync, making music with their feet while singing along - they’re worth the price of admission alone.”

Tyrone native, Aideen Fox, will be taking on the role of Dale Tremont, a role made famous by Ginger Rodgers. “Top Hat is a timeless classic - a brilliant combination of a wonderful music score and a great love story,” said Aideen. “Everyone loves a comedy too, and this show is packed full of laughs - the audience are in for a terrific night of entertainment.”

‘Top Hat’ will run at the Island Hall from Tuesday, March 24 until Saturday, March 28 with a Saturday matinee. All tickets are £22.

Throughout its 2019/2020 season, St Agnes’ Choral Society has been raising vital and lifesaving funds for Belfast City Hospital’s Renal Unit Fund as its official charity partner and there will be the opportunity to donate at the show.
