Theatre at The Mill cast takes show on the road

THE stars from the Northern Ireland premiere of The Producers at the Theatre at The Mill in Newtownabbey will be taking their show on the road - for one day only!

Key cast members will be performing parts from the all-singing, all-dancing show, directed by Peter Corry, for shoppers at the Abbeycentre on Saturday, 28 July.

“We wanted to give people a flavour of what they can expect if they come along to see the show at Theatre at The Mill. It’s an amazingly funny show and I just know how much people here will love it,” Peter Corry said.

The show runs from August 3 to 11 and stars some of Northern Ireland’s most talented young performers under the direction of Corry and Northern Ireland Musical Director, Wilson Shields, and international choreographer, Fleur Mellor.

The Producers is based on a Mel Brooks movie which was then developed as a hugely successful Broadway production winning 12 Tony Awards in 2001. Starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick it ran for more than 2,500 performances. It proved equally successful when transferring to London where it ran for three years and spawned a successful 2005 film.

The story tells of Broadway producer, Max Bialystock, and nerdy accountant, Leo Bloom, who plan to make millions by producing a sure-fire flop so that they can run off with the money when the show closes after its opening night. Unfortunately their musical ‘Springtime for Hitler’ is so outrageously camp it becomes a massive hit because the audience think it is a satire.

This is the third production for the Theatre at The Mill Summer Youth Musical Group. The previous shows, Les Miserables (2010) and Oklahoma! (2011) received rave reviews and played to sell-out crowds.
