Time to talk with Susan McCleary

SUSAN McCleary lives in Moira with husband Mark and Barney the dog.

When not in work as Sales and Marketing Manager at Theatre at The Mill and The Courtyard Theatre in Newtownabbey, you may see the fitness fanatic pounding the main road between Moira and Lurgan.

Susan recently linked up with 16 other local women to climb Ben Nevis in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

What do you like doing on your day off?

Days off are precious so they are definitely all about me and what I want to do. Selfish maybe but then it’s my day off! It usually starts with a run as I like to keep fit, it clears my head and gets me ready for the day. Then I like to catch up with friends over a coffee and maybe relax with a book. In the summer, I might go waterskiing with my husband down at Kinnego Marina or else plan in a little bit of shopping.

What would you do with a million pounds?

It’s a huge responsibility as I would want to share it with my friends and family however money can destroy relationships. Instead of money, I would buy them gifts to make life easier such as a new car or clearing a mortgage debt. I’m also a big supporter of Marie Curie Cancer Care. I would give a huge donation to them for their sterling work. I’ve also got an expensive hobby - long-haul travel. Therefore taking a year off work and travelling to far flung destinations would be on the list.

If you could visit any time in history, which would you chose and why?

Given the answer to the last question, perhaps I should go back to last Friday and buy a Euro millions lottery ticket with the winning numbers!

What is your dream holiday?

I find it difficult to relax, even on holiday and much prefer to explore places and culture to sitting on a beach. I went camping in East Africa a few years ago and had the best experience getting close to the wildlife and spending an overnight with the Maasi tribe. So a dream holiday would involve living in a local culture and actively participating in the full experience.

Slob or clean freak? Why do you say that?

I do like a clean house and untidiness and dirt annoy me. However, my colleagues in work would perhaps question this given the usual state of my desk.

Your biggest fashion disaster?

Trendy low cut gym leggings which just wouldn’t stay up when on the treadmill!

If you ruled the world what would you do first?

Have a cup of tea and contemplate my power!

If you were an animal what would you be and why?

I think I would like to be a household dog as they aren’t endangered, they get lots of love and attention from their owners, they don’t have to earn their keep and it would be so much fun to have a tail you could wag when you are happy.
