And, appropriately enough, the charity to benefit from the show will be the RNLI.

“Titanic the Musical” will be staged in the Riverside Theatre in Coleraine in April 2012 - exactly 100 years since the sinking of the world’s most famous liner.

William Thompson, Chairman of the Music Society said: “2012 is 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking. The RNLI, over the years, have faithfully served the public when in distress on the seas and, therefore, made it an easy decision for us to nominate them as our chosen charity for next year’s show.

“The RNLI are inspirational as all their work and effort is totally voluntary.

“Portrush Music Society gained the rights to this fantastic, moving musical three years ago and it will be staged over eleven shows with a special Gala Evening on the actual anniversary with the curtain up at a later time in the evening to coincide with the ship hitting the iceberg.

“There has been a great interest already in this show both locally and from as far as Nova Scotia where the local Canadian government have been holding meetings to create links with our production, Music Society and our local area.

“Nova Scotia is where the majority of those who lost their lives when the Titanic sank have been buried.”
