Top flautist for concert

TOP local flautist Andrew Rowan will be the special guest of Baillies Mills Accordion Band at their Annual Concert to be held in Ballynahinch Leisure Centre on Tuesday, October 23, at 7.45pm.

Drew Rowan is well known to local audiences as a solo performer, and also to music students, as a senior woodwind tutor, with the South Eastern Education & Library Board, at Ballynahinch Music Centre. His repertoire ranges from classical to pop, with a little folk from his days as a member of the Bakerloo Junction folk group.

The concert will be compered by comedian Joe Cauley, whose unique brand of humour is sure to bring a sparkle to the evening’s entertainment.

Next month the Band is off to London to take part in the Lord Mayor’s Show. This will be a Red Letter day in the long history of the Band, and preparations are now almost complete for their participation in this prestigious event. It is hoped that the Band will incorporate some of the music into their Concert programme that they will be performing at the House of Lords.

The Band normally takes part in the local Remembrance Day parade in Ballynahinch, but is unable to do so this year due to the Lord Mayor’s Show. However, following their successful collaboration at last year’s concert with Ballynahinch Lions Club when £1,000 was raised for charity, the Band has decided to donate the proceeds of this year’s Concert to Ballynahinch British Legion.

Tickets are now on sale at £5 each, and are available from Band members, or members of the Ballynahinch Branch of the British Legion or at Ballynahinch Leisure Centre. Details are also available on the Band’s Website at www.bailliesmills.com
