Ulster Scots cultural events secure grants

A LOCAL Ulster Scots group has secured grants from Larne Council to the tune of £1,883 to help fund two coming cultural events.

Cairncastle LOL 692 Cultural and Community Group will host a celebration of the life of Robbie Burns on January 19, followed by an Ulster Scots St Patrick’s Night on March 16.

Attendees to the Burns night will get a flavour of the music, Highland dances and experience the dress of the Haggis. It will be held in Larne Rangers Supports Club.

Meanwhile, the aim of the St Patrick’s event is to change the perception of the Protestant community and give them a greater understanding of the patron Saint of Ireland. It will include Irish and Highland dancing, musicians from different communities, and leaflets on the history of St Patrick will also be distributed. The venue for the event will be the Halfway House Hotel.
