Weather not helping anglers

THE Oaks Fishery had another busy week in somewhat cold weather conditions for both anglers and fish alike.

On Sunday, January 22, Aaron Barton in quiet windy cold conditions, took three trout on a bubble and worm, fishing a leader of five foot long, which he found to be the best depth for the conditions.

Mr G McGilloway had one trout of two pounds fishing, cats whiskers on an intermediate line. Ryan Gough did extremely well taking five trout fishing a sinking line and a combination of nymphs and boobies, these fish weighed an average of pound and half.

On Tuesday, January 24, saw the weather change again, the south westerly strong winds made fishing very difficult but John Turner peercevered and to his credit had seven trout fishing on an intermediate line and stripping lures in very fast.

The best of his fish weighed three and a half pounds. Also using similar tactics, Aaron Walker had four fish. Last but not least bad of the week goes to Ruairi McGowan, who took nine fish with one cracker of six and a half pounds. Ruairi was using sinking line and bobbies.

The pike fishing of lake has been quite slow but the mild temperatures of the past few days has seen some good fish starting to appear.
