Welcome to Dunloy for 2010 County Antrim Fleadh

YOUTH from the Dunloy branch of Comhaltas Ceolt"irí Éireann prepare for the forthcoming 2010 County Antrim Fleadh to be held in the village from Wednesday the12 May until Sunday the 16 May.

Traditional Irish music and dance enthusiasts, young and old from the county and beyond shall descend on the picturesque village of Dunloy to compete in Saturday’s wide array of competitions, to be held in St. Josephs Primary School.

If the competitions sound too strenuous why not just come along and enjoy the programme of music song and dance. The Fleadh opens on Wednesday evening with a Lecture beginning at 8.00pm in the GAA Club Rooms by the renowned historian Alex Blair on the history of Dunloy and surrounding areas followed on Thursday evening by a Cil and Set Dance in the Comhaltas Centre starting @ 9.00pm.

On Friday evening, St Josephs Parish Centre in the village hosts a concert commencing at 8.00pm featuring the youth of the county and guests. Instrumental and vocal competitions will take place on Saturday with the Ceili and Set Dance commencing on Sunday at 3.00pm. A gala of fine artists shall perform in and around the village during Saturday and Sunday until late in the evening.

Comhaltas Ceoltir ireann was formed in 1951 with objectives including the promotion of Irish Traditional music and dance. It is organised extensively through-out Ireland, Britain, The United States, Canada, Sardinia, Italy, Luxembourg, Hungary, New Zealand, Germany, Australia and Japan. It brings together people of different politics and creeds, promoting co-operation and harmony among different communities.
