Welsh 'bad boy' Brynset set to bewitch Belfast

THE fabulous voice of the world-famous Welshman, Bryn Terfel, will be filling the Belfast Waterfront this weekend when the internationally-acclaimed singer will be joining the Ulster Orchestra on Saturday, January 16.

The combination of a great voice, immaculate diction, commanding stage presence and flair for acting has made Bryn Terfel the hottest property in opera throughout the world.

And the man is a true entertainer. Bryn’s latest album Bad Boys has him portraying a wide range of villains from operas and musicals. His Belfast concert mixes some of those bad boys, like the devilish Mphistophls and the drug dealer Sportin’ Life from Porgy and Bess, with a range of other arias and popular songs. That range is impressive and takes in Verdi, Rossini, Gounod and Weber alongside the Gershwin and Lerner & Loewe’s How to Handle a Woman.

Bryn Terfel was born in rural North Wales in 1965, and was singing onstage from the age of four. Since his stage debut with Welsh National Opera in 1990, singing Guglielmo in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, he quickly went on to build up his operatic repertoire. His first international offer came from Salzburg, and since then he has appeared in all the major opera houses of the world, with music as diverse as Mozart and Wagner, Puccini and Stravinsky, Verdi and Britten.
