The lab is open to musicians, composers, poets, and video artists interested in exploring new ideas and in creating live and digital content and original performance pieces together as a group.

The new works created during the week will be showcased at CultureTech Festival on Saturday (September 20, 2014).

The background to the Creative Arts Lab began during the At Sixes and Sevens project in 2013 and this year in July when ten young artists from Derry/Londonderry took part in the inaugural Barbican Young Arts Academy in the City of London. Working with international artists and other young people from London they created a range of new works some of which they will remix and recreate during the Creative Arts Lab. They want to bring their experience in London back to Derry/Londonderry to inspire their fellow young artists.

Sarah Murphy, Artistic Director of Wall2Wall Music says: “The At Sixes and Sevens Creative Arts Lab is an opportunity to explore the connections between music, poetry and film, and to experiment with combining live and digital performance.

“There were a lot of excited young artists in London and we can’t wait to work with them and others again here.”

Aoibhinn Heaney, Barbican Young Arts Academy participant says:

“It was an incredible and unforgettable experience that I am very grateful for. Experimenting with music, audio and film with all the talented young artists provided me with such an amazing opportunity. I am very thankful that I got to work with remarkably gifted people, and I would be delighted to do it again. I had a fantastic time!”

The Creative Arts Lab is open to singers, drummers and instrumentalists from all genres - classical, traditional, jazz, rock and pop; poets and spoken word artists; digital musicians using garage band and other app based software on ipads and portable devices; and video artists.

It’s free to take part. Participants just need to bring their energy and imagination. For further details and to apply visit http://www.wall2wallmusic.org/applicationlatest or contact Sarah on 07811107065.
