“With rising prices, benefit cuts, overtime bans and job losses, previously affordable credit repayments may soon become unmanageable and lead to a spiral of uncontrollable debt” Mr Belshaw said.

And he encouraged anyone struggling to make payments towards their credit commitments to seek help as soon as they become aware there is or may soon be a problem.

“When making a payments to creditors becomes difficult, debts can grow rapidly and soon become a big problem” he said. “Unfortunately many people will wait until they are faced with legal action before seeking advice.”

Mr Belshaw continued: “There will always be a solution and the earlier the problem is addressed the easier it is to deal with. We would therefore urge anyone worried about debt to contact us sooner rather than later.”
