Tell us a little about yourself and how you ended up doing what you are doing now?

I started training in the beauty industry in 2006. It soon became clear to me that I loved the holistic side of things and noticed more and more people coming to me with stress-related problems which led me to the path I am on now, I looked into different therapies that helped me identify the core problem of the stress-related issues so I could treat them properly and not just the symptoms they were giving people.

Did you always want to run your own enterprise?

From a very young age I had always dreamed of having my own business, I didn’t have a plan of when or how this would happen but it happened sooner than I thought as I went self-employed two years ago.

What skills/qualifications do you require for the role?

The most important skill you will ever need is listening. If you don’t know what your client needs help with or what they want, you can never carry out the perfect treatment.

I have been doing this line of work for eight years and believe it or not I’m still learning, you can never stop if you want to keep up to date.

Has your business been affected by the current recession?

I started my business in the recession, it was hard to begin with but we are seeing an increase in business.

Some people think treating yourself is a luxury when that’s not the case. If you don’t look after yourself how are you meant to look after your family?

What were the biggest challenges you faced when setting up and what support did you get?

Deadlines were my biggest challenge, everything takes longer than you expect. I got a lot of support from family and friends especially my dad.

Marketing was another big challenge but with the help of Carrickfergus Enterprise I was able to avail of some free mentoring to assist me with this.

What tips could you offer those considering starting their own business?

Add extra time on to everything you do.
