It has announced that 15 of its 28 branches in Northern Ireland are to close.

However, the branch in Magherafelt town centre is to remain open.

The bank said the majority of the branches that are closing are self-service locations which do not offer a counter service.

It follows the outcome of a strategic review of its Northern Ireland business.

The bank said the acceleration in digital banking has now reached a ‘tipping point’, while adding that enhanced banking services will be available to Bank of Ireland business customers at Post Offices in Northern Ireland.

The branches earmarked for closure are:

Belfast (Ormeau Road)

Crossmaglen

Londonderry (Strand Road)

Downpatrick

Dungannon

Keady
