Tesco Carrickfergus raised £9,577.64 - part of a £10 million total by the retailer for the charity in the last 12 months.

It has already gone towards the biggest public awareness campaign on Type 2 diabetes including supporting newly diagnosed people at Living with Diabetes Days, extending the opening hours of Careline (0345 123 2399) which offers free advice and support and has also enabled Diabetes UK to provide over 1 million information leaflets about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

A total of £4 million will also be invested into research to develop a Type 1 diabetes vaccine. In the Carrickfergus area there are now 2,124 adults living with diabetes.
