Chef hoping to pass on secrets of perfect pastry
‘La Table Pastry School and Tearoom’ - the creation of French pastry chef Abel Mehablia - is the restored Georgian villa’s newest tenant.
Abel first qualified as a pastry chef at the prestigious Lycée Hotellerie du Tourisme de St Quentin en Yvelines, in a suburb of Paris. He has nurtured a passion for fine patisserie since his childhood in Paris where artisan cafes, bakeries and chocolatiers were part of everyday culture.

Having travelled and worked in Paris, London, Dublin, Sweden and Norway, Abel finally settled in Belfast where he ran ‘Prestige Patisserie’ at St George’s Market. While he has managed pastry sections in top eateries throughout Europe, his dream was always to open his own pastry school so that he could share his skill and enthusiasm.
Following a meeting with Merville House manager Lisa Barr last year, Abel decided he’d found the perfect venue for his pastry school.
