As one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, Home Bargains is creating 90 new jobs with its store on Catherine Street, Limavady.

It will also be donating £2,000 to local charity Limavady Community Development Initiative (LCDI), a cross-community charity that works to serve the whole of the community across the Limavady borough.

Established in 1987 by a group of local people concerned by the increasing levels of unemployment in the area, the LCDI now employs around 70 people delivering a range of innovative projects throughout the borough and further afield.

Wendy McAleese, finance officer at LDCI said: “On behalf of LCDI, I want to say how delighted we are to have been selected by Home Bargains as its nominated charity on the opening of the new store here in the town.

“This generous donation will help support a number of our projects across the borough, such as Roevalley Community Meals, Limavady Food Bank & Social Supermarket, Limavady Toy Bank and many others.”

The new Limavady store will join over 500 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Ryan Kealy, the new Limavady store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Limavady store this weekend and something that I’m exceptionally proud of. Having worked in retail for eight years, I’m thrilled to be joining the Home Bargains team. This is certainly a special moment and one I’ll cherish for the rest of my career.”

The 17,567 sq ft store will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks as well as fresh and frozen food. The store will also come with its own bakery, serving a range of fresh bread, pastries and cakes that will be baked in-store daily.

“Catherine Street will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices,” Mr Kealy added.

With over five million customers each week, Home Bargains is one of the country’s leading discount retailers, stocking top-quality branded goods at low prices.
