Entertainment licence for Portstewart hotel deferred

AN application for an entertainment licence from a new Portstewart hotel has been deferred by Coleraine Borough Council.

The application by Mr and Mrs Jones of the Diamond in Portstewart came before Council’s Leisure and Environment Committee on Tuesday night.

Members were told that the application was for an entertainment licence for the ground floor and basement of the premises for Monday/Tuesday - Saturday/Sunday 11.30am - 1am and Sunday 12.30pm - midnight.

They were also told that while there were no police objections, letters of objection had been received from members of the public.

Director of Environmental Services, Kieran Doherty, told members: “These premises are currently under construction, planning approval has not yet been issued for part of the development and there has been a significant adverse response to public advertisement regarding the application of an entertainment licence.

“As this is a grant of licence and objections have been received, the application should be heard by full Council.

“Discussions continue with the objectors and the applicant to identify all the specific areas of concern prior to the Council meeting.”

Mr Doherty recommended that the Committee defer the application to the full Council meeting on March 27 when both the applicant, Mr A Bradley, and the objectors will have an opportunity to address Council. This was agreed by members.
