Grammar pupils show enterprise

Supported by the Department of Education Northern Ireland, the programme introduces pupils to the concept of enterprise.

During the session Jane Hanna of Young Enterprise NI and business volunteer Alan Hunter passed on some of their entrepreneurial wisdom as participants learned about the importance of innovation, creativity and teamwork.

The programme also included activities about the meaning of enterprise, and students participated in a ‘challenge’ whereby they compiled a business plan before making products.

Laura Kerr, Senior Development manager of Young Enterprise Northern Ireland, commented: “Most of the businesses in Northern Ireland are small to medium enterprises, and YE-Nine gives students a great opportunity to understand more about the businesses on their doorstep.

“We hope that today’s workshop will inspire some of the students to consider self-employment as a career option, and that they have gained some valuable skills that will benefit them in their future working lives.”

Young Enterprise is a business and enterprise education charity and its programmes are based on the principle of ‘learning by doing’, to promote a culture of enterprise from an early age.  Activities are delivered by fully-trained business volunteers from partnership organisations and funded by a variety of public and private sector organisations.
