Green awards for Magheramorne family firms

Two Maghermorne-based companies have enhanced their environmentally friendly credentials after picking up a green accolade each.

Blossoms at Larne Lough and Green Roofs Direct have both won a Green Apple Environment Award in the national campaign to find Britain’s greenest companies, councils and communities.

The accolade is doubly special thanks to a family connection between the two businesses. Blossoms is owned by Liz Hanvey, with her brother Ray in charge of Green Roofs Direct, also a finalist in this year’s JFC Innovation Awards.

“It’s amazing to have two [awards] in the family business for two different projects,” said Liz. “This is the first award for Blossoms; we run a therapy garden so it’s in the health service category. Ray’s award is in the environmental category.”

The companies competed against more than 500 other nominations for Environmental Best Practice.

They will be presented with their trophy and certificate at the Houses of Parliament on November 10.

They have also been invited to have their winning paper published in The Green Book, an international work of reference on environmental best practice.
