Limavady firm placed into administration

ONE of the largest companies in Limavady, B. Mullan and Sons (Contractors) has been placed into administration.

The company are responsible for a large number of housing developments in Limavady and have employed a substantial number of locals over the years. It is unclear at this stage how the development will affect employees.

The firm ad been planning to develop a so-called ‘superdump’ near Macosquin, at the site of Quarry which had been earmarked for use as a landfill by seven councils in Northern Ireland.

One thousands objection letters to the ‘superdump’ proposals had been delivered to Stormont in 2007 by residents living near the site of the proposal, although it has since been granted planning permission.

The company were planning to forge a partnership with a waste management company for the ‘superdump’ venture, although the waste management company pulled out.

Two sister companies have also been placed into administration: B Mullan & Sons (Developments) and B Mullan & Sons (Pre Mix Concrete.)

Directors of B. Mullan and Sons (Contractors) have stated in their last set of published accounts, which are for the year ending March 2010 and show a loss of more than £600,000, that the firm was experiencing challenging economic conditions and was in negotiations aimed at diversifying the business.

The firm have been operating in Limavady for some time, and are responsible for a number of housing developments. They also retain outline permission for a further four sites between Limavady and Drumsurn.

The company’s website states: “B Mullan & Sons Ltd has been constructing quality private housing for over five years. A range of types and sizes are available to suit those who wish to join the housing ladder and those who, perhaps require to re-site or need larger accommodation.

“The company offers three bed Townhouses, located at our Bovally development in Limavady.

Detached houses of four and five bedrooms are also available on this site.”

It adds: “A further four sites, each with a minimum of outline permission are available between Limavady and Drumsurn. Additional land may be purchased with each of these sites for those who may require to cater for additional activity. Preliminary construction plans have been completed for these properties, but the final design may be able to cater for individual needs.”
